Bradwell-edge-from-winhill-PD382
From the path above Twitchill Farm looking south over Aston and Brough towards Bradwell edge and Shatton moor. A winter evening shot with lengthening shadows through the bare winter trees. You can see the track up Bradwell edge itself, which starts from Brough (left at the Travellers Rest traffic lights, right ...

Lawrencefield Mossy Autumn Boulders PD379
Below the surprise view and Lawrencefield one autumn morning I spent a while among the moss covered boulders surrounded by fallen leaves. The mosses lit up brilliant green in the sunlight, and by positioning my camera and tripod in the shadow of a tree I managed to shoot towards the sun ...

Ladybower and Moscar from Winhill PD378
From just below winhill pike looking north east towards ladybower dam and the road up to Moscar and Sheffield. Always take the camera! I set off in overcast light for an evening walk up from Hope, and by the time I was at the top the sun finally appeared below the ...

Bamburgh Castle at Sunrise N1
From the beach north of the castle on a january morning, We were staying at Amble, a few miles south, and had a little trouble remembering the way to this beach, it being about 25 years since since my last visit! So once on the sand I immediately set up ...

Froggatt Edge heather and trees PD372
From not far along the path in from the top of the Froggatt Edge road just below the Grouse Pub, on my way to the rocks and edges one evening I stopped off here to frame the view to Bamford edge with the side lit silver birch trees and the last ...

Kinder Scout to Chinley PD371
From a summer evening walk up from Hayfield past Kinder Reservoir to Kinder Scout itself to the North of the Downfall. I stayed around these rocks as the setting sun would not reach the downfall itself. I tried shots looking to the right of here to the reservoir but too many ...

Limestone Walls near Litton PD129
A late summer shot of limestone walls looking east from near Litton, looking down Tansley Dale with Cressbrook Dale visible behind. The tree and curved wall help here, also the walls rising up the hill to the left. (I wanted to get away from that parallell lines of walls view) There ...

Rhododendrons above Calver PD52
Looking north to Calver Sough from Rhododendrons to the south of the road to Hassop. A warm sunny day but I don't recommend this with shorts & sandals! To get the shot involved waiding waist deep in undergrowth and brambles. You can see Calver centrally, Froggatt Edge to the right, Riley ...

Peak Forest summer fields PD83
A hazy summer morning shot of hayfields and bales near Peak Forest. Shooting towards the sun has burnt out the sky and I used a diffusing filter to get this 'mood' shot, not technically perfect but evocative of summer I think.

Winhill Pike & Heather PD96
A summer afternoon shot of Winhill Pike and heather from a nearby path junction. Those who know up here will know this is not a recent picture as there has been a fence on the right for a couple of years now.

Stanage Edge east summer evening Millstones PD193
Looking up at Stanage Edge past the millstones below the eastern Trig Point. Early summer evening light warms the rock and adds depth to the grasses below.

Salt Cellar on Derwent Edge to Kinder Scout PD86
A summer afternoon shot looking west from the Salt Cellar on Derwent Edge, with Kinder Scout plateau visible beyond. Shot looking almost directly into the sun required some shade and a graduated filter to darken the sky and prevent lens flare. The forground rocks help break up the heather and a ...

Higger Tor & Heather PD92
A summer morning photograph from the Stanage Edge side looking east toward Higger Tor & heather. Quite windy as you can see from the blurred grasses to the left. Shot using a tripod set up to get the camera through a hole in the fence for this clear view.

Bamford Edge heather to Ladybower Viaduct PD95
A summer afternoon photograph from just below Bamford Edge heather looking north west down over Ladybower Dam and viaduct with Derwent Edge and Bleaklow disappearing into the heat haze.

Bamford Edge millstone & heather PD94
The only millstone I've ever found near Bamford Edge surrounded with August Heather. Looking south east Bamford itself is just visible on the right, and down the Hope Valley towards Hathersage with Offerton Edge on the horizon.

Kinder Scout Reservoir from downfall PD112
Looking west from Kinder Scout Downfall towards Kinder Reservoir and Hayfield. A clearing winter morning with sun just getting through the cloud onto the north side of the streams' valley, to help scale it the pimple on the rock just in from the right top corner was actually 2 people sitting ...

Stanage & Heathery Moor from Over Owler Tor PD85
Summer midday photo looking north from Over Owler Tor across heathery moor towards Stanage Edge. Made entirely by the shadows of the clouds adding variation and depth to the moor, also rocks, heather and green bracken help break up the forground.

Burbage North Valley summer evening PD145
Looking south to Carl Wark & Longshaw from Burbage North on a summer evening. Boulders just below the gritstone cliffs in the forground and sidelit emerging new growth of bracken mid frame left. The trees in the valley and towards Higger Tor are partly in shadow to the right.

Ladybower Dam & Heather to Bleaklow PD93
Ladybower Dam from the start of derwent edge with summer heather. Looking north towards derwent dam with the far moors between Bleaklow and Howden visible on the horizon, green bracken and the yellowing fields, along with the wooded slopes down near the water, all help to add contrast. This was the ...
I've been trying a few vertical panoramic shots...

On the right, a telephoto shot from the snow in early 2012 overlooking Tideswell, I was drawn to the one grey / blue rendered house in the middle (the colourful chimney pots and post van were a bonus). On the left an odd angled crop from a while ago of a spring lamb and watchful mother, from some distance away behind a fence again with my telephoto lens.
